In Bude, we are nearly an hour (it's sometimes more!!) away from the nearest hospital, the ambulance times are terrible (nothing to do with staff and treatment!the staff work incredibly hard!!)
Barnstaple Hospital (NDDH) – 36.3 miles - 57 mins Derriford – 43.8 miles – 1hr 14 mins Treliske – 54.2 miles – 1hr 19 mins Exeter Hospital – 55.9 miles – 1hr 14 mins We need better services nearer to Bude! (Or upgrade Stratton Hospital to an Urgent Care centre at least!) Stratton Hospital is open from 8am - 10pm as an MIU, we are told not to use this for anything other than minor injuries, we have hundreds of examples where Stratton MIU has saved lives. We need this open 24 hrs or upgraded! We are too far away from a main hospital! Please help us! Stratton Minor Injuries Unit is open 8am - 10pm currently. Up until December it was 24 hrs, this wasn't planned, but 3 members of staff retired in a relatively short space of time. Recruitment has been incredibly difficult, apparently. After the meeting on 14th February, which sounded potentially positive! I left my details with Nicky Chopak and also a lady from the NHS, I hadnt heard from anyone and after receiving some information regarding the possibility of some nurses interested in working at the MIU, I copied in Peter Le Broy and Mayor Willingham , I have now been contacted by Cllr David Parsons. I had a very interesting conversation with him and he will be meeting with Nicky Chopak this week to discuss patient participation meetings. I asked him if there was anything I could be doing in the mean time, and we discussed collating peoples experiences of ambulance waiting times, how Stratton MIU helped individuals and also instances of having to travel long distances to hospital for treatment or appointments. Not only are we fighting to get the MIU open 24 hrs again, but also fighting for better provisions in our area, and maybe more services available in the Bude Stratton area. If you could please either send a direct message to this group or email [email protected] |
